Job summary

Cogir Senior Living is seeking an Assistant Cook to support the Cook in preparing and delivering meals for residents, guests and staff. The role emphasizes adherence to dietary needs, portion control, and safe food handling.

The position requires a Food Handler's Certificate, experience in large-scale food prep, and the ability to comply with health regulations. A Red Seal is preferred and a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement setting.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
• Knowledge of and experience with special and therapeutic diets.
• Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy items and stand long hours.
• Second language skills are an asset.
• Complete Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and/or be responsible for the preparation and delivery of all foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets; prepare and serve meals attractively.
• Ensure use of proper food handling techniques.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridges, freezers and storerooms.
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic/specialty diets according to planned menus.
• Assist in serving meals following residents' diet and preferences.
• Follow daily production charts and standardized recipes within budget.
• Assist in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies.
