Job description

We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to join our finance team and play a key role in both managing our accounting team and driving in-depth accounting analysis for our loans business. The ideal candidate brings technical accounting background and a sharp analytical mindset, leveraging AI tools to improve and streamline processes.This role requires someone who can balance day-to-day team oversight with hands-on work in complex accounting areas, particularly around the loan portfolio and financial reporting.

The base salary for this role is: $95,000-$125,000

Location - Vancouver or MST time zone (Remote)

What You’ll Do

• Manage an accounting team, ensuring a timely and accurate execution of core functions
• Own and enhance month-end close processes and internal controls, including identifying opportunities to integrate AI-powered tools for automation.
• Perform deep-dive accounting analysis of complex transactions with a specific focus on our loan business
• Support audit preparation and work with external auditors as needed.
• Streamline and consolidate accounting processes across multiple businesses
• Work closely with the Controller on key projects.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting as necessary
• Support audit preparation and work with external auditors as needed
• Provide support to the Treasury function
• Provide regular variance analysis on key financial information
  
  

What You'll Need

• CPA with minimum 5 years progressive work experience is mandatory.
• Previous experience in a public company and IFRS reporting is preferred. Financial services industry experience is definitely an asset.
• Financial reporting experience.
• Advanced experience using MS Excel; working knowledge of Netsuite.
• Successful experience with process improvement/redesign and change management..
• Quick learner and adaptable to a dynamic environment.
• Strong interest in AI to improve accounting and financial reporting functions
• Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to understand complex issues.
• Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability.
• Strong technical ability
• Able to perform detailed variance analysis.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
