Job summary

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Assistant Controller will work in conjunction with the Senior Regional Controller to undertake and manage the financial and administrative affairs of the assigned regions / company in accordance with Corporate Policy.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist operations with preparation of any ad hoc reports
  2. Support ongoing business planning and quarterly forecasting processes as well as the annual strategic planning exercise
  3. Complete and review month-end reconciliations and budget variance analyses
  4. Manage cash flow and other company assets
  5. Provide financial recommendations and ideas when new business initiatives are proposed
  6. Ensure management of the general ledger
  7. Resolve vendor payment disputes
  8. Assist with collection of accounts receivable when required
  9. Plan, organize and undertake the period close process including preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  10. Ensure conformity with internal accounting policies and business processes, as well as compliance with established internal controls, including approval requirements, with a keen eye toward cost control and accuracy
  11. Ensure integrity of financial data and systems and adherence to Corporate reporting timelines
  12. Participate in the annual external audit
  13. Develop streamlined reports using Power BI
  14. Prepare salary recovery worksheets and other cost transfer forms and post
  15. Post journal entries, perform bank reconciliations, and reconcile required general ledger accounts
  16. Perform month-end processes related to jobs (e.g., closeouts, profit recognition, unbilled work orders) and update of accounting WIP reports

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a diploma in Business Administration – Accounting or a degree in Finance
  • CPA designation required

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller position
  • Prior experience in a construction or engineering company is preferred

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in advanced Excel skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and systems aptitude
  • Knowledge of JDE Edwards or comparable ERP system is preferred
