Qualifications

Our Assistant Controller Opportunity...

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Controller to join our Finance Team for a 24-month term of parental leave coverage, with the possibility of extension. This position will be from our Saskatoon office.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Financial Statement Reporting & Assurance

  • Prepare month-end Balance sheet working papers.
  • Prepare journal entries as required for review.

Accounting Standards Compliance

  • Ensure compliance in all entities.
  • Complete Statistics Canada Surveys.

Payroll Management

  • Manage payroll processing and ensure compliance with tax regulations
  • Supervise daily payroll activities, including transactions, reconciliations, and general ledger entries.

Internal Controls

  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Support the development and enforcement of accounting policies and procedures.

Budget

  • Assist in the development of annual budgets.

Tax

  • Prepare and submit Sales taxes, investigate issues.
  • Ensure sales tax compliance.

Insurance

  • Prepare back-up during insurance review.
  • Assist with insurance requests as required.

Lead, Manage and Hold Accountable

  • Lead, manage and hold accountable payroll team.
  • Complete quarterly conversations and weekly 121s with direct reports.

Job Requirements

  • Possess strong leadership skills and abilities, including effective communication, honesty, empathy, creativity, responsibility, and flexibility.
  • Advanced skills in the areas of time management, planning and organization.
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting. CPA is considered an asset.
  • Experience in industry accounting is considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • A keen eye for detail, Self-starting attitude, willingness to be innovative and look for new solutions and efficiencies to support the finance team.
  • Ability to thrive in a team setting or work independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time manage effectively.
  • An ability and willingness to communicate and work with the finance department in varying time zones.
