What qualifications are we looking for?

Qualifications include:

1. Previous experience in leading banquet and large volume kitchens or line cooking;
2. Experience leading a team;
3. Strong communication skills;
4. A positive attitude and positive teamwork experience;
5. A love for the outdoors and living in the Rocky Mountains;
6. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol;
7. Food Safe Certification (or willing to obtain);
8. Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting to the Executive Chef (manager), the Assistant Chef is responsible for:

1. Ensuring consistent high quality of meals and food service systems;
2. Coaching and supporting kitchen staff;
3. Ordering food and supplies;
4. Liaison with parents and group leaders around dietary restrictions;
5. Menu planning with Executive Chef that focuses on decreasing waste and creatively utilizing leftovers;
6. Supervision of 2-10 staff, depending on the season and operational volume;
7. One position per kitchen / lodge.
