What qualifications are we looking for?

Qualifications include :

• Previous experience in leading banquet and large volume kitchens or line cooking;
• Experience leading a team;
• A positive attitude and positive teamwork experience;
• A love for the outdoors and living in the Rocky Mountains;
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations : Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and / or Canadian Ski Patrol;
• Food Safe Certification (or willing to obtain);
• Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting to the Executive Chef (manager), the Assistant Chef is responsible for :

• Ensuring consistent high quality of meals and food service systems;
• Coaching and supporting kitchen staff;
• Ordering food and supplies;
• Liaison with parents and group leaders around dietary restrictions;
• Menu planning with Executive Chef that focuses on decreasing waste and creatively utilizing leftovers;
• Supervision of 2-10 staff, depending on the season and operational volume;
