Job summary

Bruce County is seeking an Assistant Branch Supervisor for the Bookmobile in Port Elgin, ON. This part-time role focuses on supporting library operations, customer service, circulation, and community programming, with supervision duties as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a 2-year library diploma, experience in a unionized library, and strong computer and communication skills. Valid G license and clean Vulnerable Sector Check are required; First Aid/CPR is a plus. Apply by Sept 8, 2026.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Lead Branch Supervisor, or Programming and Community Engagement Supervisor, in the case of the Bookmobile, the Assistant Branch Supervisor assists with ensuring the smooth operation of the Library Branches. This is achieved through customer service, circulation functions, coordination of Branch programming, direct implementation of programs, and community outreach. The position involves a great deal of multitasking, organizational skills, and the ability to make decisions quickly and decisively. The incumbent assists the Supervisor as needed, and in the absence of the Supervisor, undertakes supervisory duties.

What We're Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Two-year post-secondary diploma in Library Sciences or a related field
  • One year of previous experience in a unionized library, including working with children and adults

Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced computer skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset
