Job summary

The City of Fort St. John is seeking a Park Technician: Arborist to support the Urban Forest Strategy within Parks.

The role involves inspecting trees for hazards, performing pruning and planting, and coordinating pest control and safety tasks throughout municipal lands. Applicants should hold an arboriculture-related degree or diploma and ISA certification, with strong knowledge of urban forestry practices and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Arboriculture, Horticulture or Urban Forestry with related experience or equivalent
• ISA Certification is required
• ISA Tree Risk Assessor or equivalent is required
• Chainsaw certification/qualification or equivalent is required
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence with safe driving record
• Pesticide Applicator’s License (Landscape) is an asset
• WHMIS training is required
• Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Check

Responsibilities

• Inspect and identify diseased trees or hazards and determine remedial action.
• Plant, prune, trim, remove, water, fertilize and mulch as required.
• Inspect, monitor and control pests through pesticide applications.
• Assist in development and support of the Urban Forest Strategy.
• Prepare annual planting plan and liaise with suppliers for plants/materials.
• Participate in off-season snow and ice control and outdoor recreation maintenance.
• Respond to public inquiries and investigations of complaints.
• Assist in Safe Work Procedures and guidelines development.
• Ensure safety documentation including pre-trip inspections and risk assessments is completed.
• Create presentations and educational campaigns as required.
• Perform or coordinate routine maintenance on equipment.
