Job summary

The City of Leduc is seeking a hands-on Arborist Lead to support the long-term health and safety of our urban canopy across parks, boulevards, and natural spaces. You will lead day-to-day pruning, removals, and tree care with a safety-first crew.

Reporting to the Arborist Lead and Parks Manager, you will operate aerial lift trucks and support pest management, planting, and inspections while ensuring compliance with ANSI and ISA standards in a dynamic municipal environment.

Qualifications

• ISA Arborist Certification is required.
• High School diploma is required; post-secondary forestry or horticulture is an asset.
• 3+ years’ experience in arboriculture or municipal tree care operations.
• Valid Class 5Q Driver’s License with a clean abstract. Pesticide Applicator’s License and supervisory experience are assets.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled pruning, removals, and structural tree care following ANSI and ISA standards.
• Safely operate and maintain aerial bucket trucks, wood chippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and skid steers.
• Conduct site inspections to identify hazards and apply risk-mitigation measures.
• Identify, diagnose, and treat tree diseases and pests using integrated pest management.
• Assist with tree planting and establishment and maintain young trees.
• Provide guidance on safe work methods to crew members.
• Maintain safety and operation logs, equipment checks, hazard assessments, and incident reporting.
• Interact professionally with residents and relay inquiries to the Lead.

Reporting directly to the Arborist Lead, you will work as part of a dedicated field crew carrying out essential tree care operations across our parks, boulevards, facilities, and natural areas.In this role, your primary focus is skilled, day-to-day tree maintenance and pruning under the direction of the Lead and the Parks Manager. Whether you are operating an aerial lift truck, working aloft to remove hazardous limbs, or diagnosing plant health issues on site, your craft directly protects our public spaces. You’ll work alongside a safety-first team that values your technical arboriculture skills, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to municipal standards.What will you do?Working closely with the arboriculture crew under the direction of the Arborist Lead, you will carry out hands-on, year-round urban forestry operations. You will:Perform skilled pruning, removals, and structural tree care in accordance with ANSI and ISA standards across city parks, boulevards, and green spaces.Safely operate and maintain specialized tree care equipment, including aerial bucket trucks, wood chippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and skid steers.Conduct site inspections to identify tree hazards, executing risk-mitigation measures such as corrective pruning, cabling, or removals.Identify, diagnose, and treat tree diseases and pest infestations using integrated pest management techniques and approved treatments.Assist with tree planting and establishment, helping plant new stock and maintaining young trees across the community.Provide peer guidance on safe work methods, sharing best practices and safe tool-handling techniques with seasonal or labourer staff on your crew.Maintain safety and operational documentation, including daily field logs, equipment circle checks, hazard assessments, and incident reporting.Interact professionally with residents, providing helpful, courteous information when approached in the field or relaying public inquiries back to the Lead.Who you are?You’re a hands-on professional who’s passionate about tree care and thrives outdoors.
