Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a dedicated Climbing Arborist to work in the canopy, performing pruning, thinning and removal of deadwood in outdoor settings while ensuring client satisfaction and safety.

You will operate chainsaws, chippers and aerial lifts, install cables and bracing, assist with site setup and cleanup, and follow Davey safety policies to deliver quality tree care year-round.

Qualifications

• Canopy ascent taught and practiced safely at various heights.
• At least 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to pursue certification.
• Strong ability to identify trees, knots, and shrubs.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton license considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate tools including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts.

Position Overview

As a Climbing Arborist with Davey Tree; you will be in the field and up in the canopy most of your day with a hands-on approach to tree and vegetation management. You will deal directly with the public and will draw on your expert knowledge and experience to ensure the job is done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of the trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and Airbrake endorsement considered an asset.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $21-$26/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
