Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited in Nisku, Alberta, is seeking a Climbing Arborist for fieldwork and canopy-based tree management. You will work in the canopy daily, engaging with the public and applying expert knowledge to complete jobs safely and on time.

The position requires climbing experience, a willingness to become a Certified Arborist, and a valid driver's license. Expect full-time, year-round work with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Understanding and implementation of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton vehicle license and Airbrake endorsement are assets.
• Forestry, horticulture or landscaping background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy at various heights.
• Install cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson with site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Adhere to Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As a Climbing Arborist with Davey Tree; you will be in the field and up in the canopy most of your day with a hands‑on approach to tree and vegetation management. You will deal directly with the public and will draw on your expert knowledge and experience to ensure the job is done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of the trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.

• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.

Additional Information
