Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a full-time ground-to-canopy arborist who works on-site year-round.

The role involves pruning, removing deadwood, and installing safety systems such as cables and braces, with hands-on tool operation including chainsaws and aerial lifts. Applicants should have at least 1 year of climbing experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Understanding and safe ascent into tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to pursue certification.
• Strong ability to identify trees, knots and shrubs.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver's license; 5-ton license considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in tree canopies at various heights.
• Install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and aerial lifts.
• Assist crew with job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Follow Davey safety policies and procedures.

Job Duties

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of the trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and Airbrake endorsement considered an asset.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $23-$33/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
