Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a Climbing Arborist to work in the field, up in the canopy, performing pruning, removal, and installation of supports.

You will handle equipment, follow safety policies, and assist the trimmers and foreperson on job sites. This is full-time, year-round work with a wage of CAD 21–27 per hour plus benefits. The role requires physical fitness, a valid driver’s license, and a willingness to pursue Arborist certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton vehicle and Airbrake endorsement considered asset.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and aerial lifts.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson with job site setup and cleanup.
• Adhere to Davey safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As a Climbing Arborist with Davey Tree; you will be in the field and up in the canopy most of your day with a hands-on approach to tree and vegetation management. You will deal directly with the public and will draw on your expert knowledge and experience to ensure the job is done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of the trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and Airbrake endorsement considered an asset.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $21-$27/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications. Certified arborists may be paid outside the pay range indicated.
