The AML QC Lead Investigator

Conducts investigations to identify, assess, decide, and report activity indicating exposure to financial crimes. Ensures threats and investigations are evaluated, documented, managed, and escalated following standard operating procedures. Provides expertise and oversight of criminal risk, using a disciplined, intelligence-based approach aligned with frameworks and standards to ensure compliance and support analysis and insights generation.

  • Develops solutions and recommendations based on business strategy and stakeholder needs.
  • Provides advice and guidance on solution implementation.
  • Determines business priorities and sequencing for strategy execution.
  • Performs independent analysis to resolve strategic issues.
  • Supports strategic initiatives with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Builds relationships with stakeholders, including law enforcement and financial institutions.
  • Ensures stakeholder alignment.
  • Integrates information from multiple sources for efficient processes and reporting.
  • May perform risk-based assessments of incidents/cases.
  • Oversees report and notification preparations.
  • Resolves complex issues, communicates risk requirements.
  • Acts as first contact for escalation.
  • Assists in task coordination, scheduling, and assignment.
  • May assist with leadership, onboarding, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Monitors and analyzes information to evaluate and determine actions.
  • Supports evidence collection for various purposes.
  • Documents actions and maintains case files.
  • Maintains understanding of financial crime management processes.
  • Generates reports, dashboards, and analyzes data for insights.
  • Executes routine tasks within service level agreements.
  • Provides notifications and instructions to stakeholders.
  • Focuses primarily on business within BMO, with potential enterprise-wide scope.
  • Uses judgment to diagnose and solve problems.
  • Works independently on complex tasks, including unique situations.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Typically 4-6 years of relevant experience, with a post-secondary degree or equivalent.
  • Experience in investigations or compliance required.
  • Knowledge of banking products, services, and processes is an asset.
  • Proficiency in technical skills through education or experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and team skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Influence and decision-making skills.
  • Data-driven decision-making abilities.
