ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN

Perfect Prairie Pork Sow (Douglas, MB area)

Starting Rate: $19.00

POSITION SUMMARY

The Animal Care Technician works directly with the Manager, Hog Barn, and is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day activities in the barn. This role involves physical activities such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, and continuous walking. The candidate must be a team player working towards specific production goals, adhering to health and safety policies, procedures, and MLAF SOPs related to humane animal treatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicant will assist with various production tasks including:

1. Feeding and caring for pigs
2. Maintaining herd health and environment
3. Pressure washing and preparing rooms
4. General maintenance and cleaning
5. Clerical duties such as maintaining door charts, inventory trackers, and ordering feed and medication

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills (oral and written)
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities
• Ability to wear proper PPE and comply with safety standards
• Ability to lift 25kg
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the rural work location
• Availability for weekend, holiday hours, and alarm attending on a rotational basis

• Experience in hog production is an asset
