Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Performance Analytics and Reporting, the Analyst supports utility performance analysis and reporting activities, manages data submission processes, and provides insights to aid policy development and decision-making. The department monitors the performance of Ontario’s electricity and natural gas distributors and other regulated entities.

This is an 18-month contract role with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop plans to achieve data analytics goals based on financial, customer, and performance data from utilities.
  2. Identify issues and provide in-depth analysis of financial and non-financial data.
  3. Provide analytics expertise to stakeholders, highlighting trends and correlations in utility reporting.
  4. Support policy implementation through reporting and data analysis in collaboration with other departments.
  5. Build analytical models to enhance reporting and industry insights, and present findings to stakeholders.
  6. Manage projects related to performance assessment, such as utility scorecard enhancements.
  7. Collaborate with team members on best practices and utility operations.
  8. Prepare and review regular statistical and project reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  9. Develop and improve policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional designation in accounting, engineering, or finance is highly preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in the energy sector, including performance assessment, industry insights, asset management, or system planning.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience translating large data sets into actionable insights.
  • Knowledge of electric utility performance metrics and key drivers.
  • Preferred experience in a utility or regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency with data analytical tools such as Excel, SQL, VBA, Oracle BI, SAS, R, Tableau, Alteryx.
  • Understanding of financial and management reporting.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams, stakeholder expectations, and managing projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, and related policies is an asset.
