Job summary

Air Canada, through Aeroplan, invites an experienced financial reporting professional to join our Winnipeg Finance team. Reporting to the Corporate Financial Information Partner, you will produce monthly and quarterly IFRS financial statements and support year-end audits for Aeroplan.

You will oversee intercompany reconciliations, consolidation, cash flow monitoring and internal controls, while delivering timely management reports and analyses for decision making.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration or accounting, required.
  • Holding or pursuing CPA designation, required.
  • 3–5 years of accounting and financial reporting experience.
  • Strong analytical mind and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Mastery of Excel; SAP experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Produce Aeroplan's monthly and quarterly IFRS financial statements for Air Canada.
  • Coordinate year-end closing and audit with external auditors.
  • Support Aeroplan's intercompany consolidation and eliminations.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly management reports with KPIs and variance analyses.
  • Provide financial information to equity investors as per shareholder agreements.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances and ensure internal controls compliance.

Reporting to the Corporate Financial Information Partner, the incumbent is responsible for producing accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly and quarterly results, year-end financial statements and related audit support documents, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Air Canada accounting methods. The incumbent participates in the consolidation of Aeroplan's financial results into those of Air Canada, in particular by performing intercompany reconciliations, applying appropriate accounting treatments and reporting to Air Canada senior management, Aeroplan management and shareholders. It also monitors cash flows, distributable cash and compliance with shareholder and corporate agreement obligations, while maintaining rigorous internal controls over financial reporting. Through analysis, reporting and process improvement, this position contributes to informed decision-making and effective financial governance within Aeroplan.

Responsibilities
Financial Information and Consolidation
  • Produce Aeroplan's monthly and quarterly financial statements, in accordance with IFRS standards and Air Canada's accounting methods. Ensure closing processes are completed on time and that Aeroplan's financial reports as a subsidiary are of high quality.
  • Coordinate year-end closing and audit of Aeroplan's annual financial statements, collaborating with external auditors to provide necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Support Aeroplan's consolidation by Air Canada, including elimination of intercompany balances, proper treatment of Aeroplan's results and their attribution to non-controlling interests.
Management Reports and Stakeholder Reports
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports for Air Canada financial managers and Aeroplan management. Include key performance indicators, variance analyses and commentary on Aeroplan's financial results compared to budget or forecasts.
  • Provide required financial information to Aeroplan's equity investor, on a quarterly and annual basis, in accordance with the shareholder agreement.
Intercompany Accounting and Compliance
  • Supervise all financial transactions between Aeroplan and Air Canada (and its affiliates), to ensure they are properly accounted for and reconciled. Reconcile intercompany balances monthly, and resolve any discrepancies with the Air Canada Accounting team.
  • Ensure Aeroplan's financial activities comply with investor agreements and corporate policies, including compliance with distribution-related restrictive covenants. Liaise with internal stakeholders (Treasury, Legal Affairs) to ensure compliance with these requirements.
Cash Flow Monitoring and Distributable Liquidity
  • Compile cash flow reports and monitor liquidity against required reserves, including calculations of distributable liquidity available to shareholders.
  • Coordinate the accounting and execution of any distribution to investors.
Internal Control
  • Implement and maintain rigorous internal controls over financial reporting, in accordance with National Instrument 52-109, for all new processes arising from Aeroplan's minority investment structure.
Analyses and Ad Hoc Projects
  • Support ad hoc financial analyses related to Aeroplan's capital structure or shareholder agreements.
  • Contribute to financial analyses and reports for board of directors or special committee meetings concerning Aeroplan.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of accounting processes and controls aimed at continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Support other deliverables and projects within the Financial Information team.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration or accounting, required.
  • Holding or upcoming obtaining of the CPA designation, required.
  • Three to five years of experience in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical mind and attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational sense to manage various projects, and ability to modify priorities and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team.
  • High energy, dedication and work ethic.
  • Mastery of Excel.
  • Experience with SAP financial systems, an asset.
