Job summary

York University’s Motion Media Studio seeks a Technology Coordinator to oversee daily technical operations, servicing film production, VR and post‑production workflows. You will manage equipment, coordinate events, and support academic activities at the MMS facility housed at Cinespace Film Studios in Etobicoke.

The role requires a BFA in Film & Video Production and two years of related experience, with assets for Power Technician designation and working at heights certification.

Responsibilities

Purpose:

Reporting to the manager and working under the direction of the York U Motion Media Studio (MMS) faculty director, the York University Motion Media Studio Technology Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of daily technical and studio operations, by providing service, coordination, monitoring, and technical expertise (e.g Film Production, Virtual Production, Post-Production). This includes the operation and maintenance of equipment and infrastructure related to the soundstages and studios, including its events, programming, academic activities, research activities, industry partnerships, and community outreach initiatives. MMS is located at the Cinespace Film Studios at 777 Kipling Avenue, Etobicoke.

Education:

Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Film and Video production, including a formal education in digital cinema and video equipment, including lighting and grip or an equivalent of 3 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Entertainment Industry Power Technician 269E designation would be considered an asset. Working At Heights certification would also be considered an asset.

Experience:

Two (2) years related experience in film and/or video production in a technical capacity (i.e. lighting, grip).

Skills:

Training in the operation of digital high definition professional video cameras, grip and electric equipment and audio recorders. Excellent knowledge of internal workings of all film-making production and post-production equipment and technologies, including digital image, sound capture, editing, VR, cinematography and post production techniques and principles and their practical applications. Knowledge and use of typical temporary power distribution systems. Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as the Ontario Safety Guidelines for the Film & Television Industry. Experience working in a teaching environment would be considered an asset.
