Job summary

Cenovus is hiring a Software and AI Developer to join our AI Development team in downtown Calgary. This early‑career role offers hands‑on ownership of software projects and exposure to applied AI, modern platforms, and end‑to‑end product delivery.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers, product leads, and domain experts, contributing to production systems while learning design, quality, and secure development practices in an in‑office role based in downtown Calgary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years of software development experience in tech/energy domains.
• Experience with modern full-stack frameworks (Rails, Django, Laravel, ASP.NET or similar).
• Foundations of OO programming, APIs, databases, testing, and security.
• Experience with AI frameworks and AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with databases and cloud services.
• Experience with agentic development practices and AI-assisted tools.
• Demonstrated curiosity and problem-solving through projects or hackathons.

Responsibilities

• Build production-grade, full-stack applications used by business and field teams.
• Own end-to-end product development with stakeholders and experts.
• Participate in lifecycle from problem definition to deployment and monitoring.
• Apply generative AI, analytics, and automation in real workflows.
• Translate operational problems into working software in collaboration with domain experts.
• Develop and adhere to engineering foundations and secure practices.
• Learn via pairing with senior engineers and continuous code reviews.
