Job summary

BGCBigs is seeking individuals for full-time after-school program roles in Edmonton & Area. You will plan, manage and deliver programming for children and youth (ages 6-17) in collaboration with local schools, focusing on academics, physical activity, leadership, arts, culture, and health.

You will supervise staff and volunteers, build partnerships with schools and community organizations, and ensure safe, engaging experiences that support positive youth outcomes throughout the program year.

Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in the area of child and youth care, education, recreational studies or a related field.
• 2 years of supervisory experience and 5 years combined experience in child/youth-based programming and partnership development.
• Experience with data entry into an electronic case management system and MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage and deliver after school programming for children and youth (ages 6-17) in areas like academics, activities, leadership, arts, culture, health and nutrition.
• Provide engaging programming and ensure a safe, constructive environment for teens.
• Manage daily operations of the Club/School site and develop community partnerships.
• Build relationships with schools, agencies and community partners to serve diverse youth groups.
• Supervise staff and volunteers, oversee program delivery and staff training.
• Lead and mentor staff/volunteers to support after-school programming options.
• Engage families and collect program data for evaluation and improvement.
• Ensure safety and compliance with health and safety regulations and agency protocols.

Status: Full-Time Position (37.5 hours per week)

Salary Range: $56,774 -$62,668 annually

The key responsibilities of this position will include:

• Planning, managing and delivering after school programming for children and youth including ages 6-17 specifically in the areas of academic support, physical activity, leadership, arts and culture, and health and nutrition. This club specifically provides programming in partnership with location schools to support their students after school.
• Providing support and engaging programming to teens, ensuring they are in a safe, constructive, satisfying environment for a positive impact.
• Managing the daily operations of the Club/School site, with a focus on the development and advancement of community partnerships and initiatives.
• Establishing and maintaining ongoing working partnerships with the local schools, agencies and the community to provide programming to diverse groups of children and youth.
• Responsibility for a small staff team, providing direct supervision of staff and volunteers, program management and improvement, and partnership development.
• Coordinating and providing leadership, direction and training to all staff and potential volunteers participating in the delivery of programming, ensuring their skills are used to support the range of after-school programming options.
• Building relationships with families and providing opportunities for quality outcomes for their children.
• Collecting and submitting program data/information within a customized database for program evaluation and improvement.
• Providing a safe environment by ensuring adherences to workplace safety and health regulations and operating standards are upheld in all programs.
• Supporting staff in following all safety and cleaning protocols set out by AHS and the agency to safely run programming

The successful candidate will have:

• University degree or college diploma in the area of child and youth care, education, recreational studies or a related field.
• 2 years of previous supervisory experience and 5 years combined experience in a role involving child and youth-based programming, and partnership development.
• Solid knowledge of child and teen development, out of school programming, strength-based practice is an asset.
• Proven ability to be approachable, understanding, organized and efficient with excellent problem-solving skills
• Experience in the delivery of community programs and extensive knowledge of community collaboration, community resources and services.
• Experience working with Junior High School youth ages.
• An awareness and understanding of emerging issues facing families in Edmonton.
• Ability to embrace and practice the agencies equity, diversity and inclusion philosophy and integrates this practice into their work and agency messaging.
• Can be counted on to meet and exceed goals and able to get positive results from others.
• Experience entering data into an electronic case management system and experience working with the MS suite of programs.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is a must.
• Ability to work 11:30-7:30 PM/8:30PM Monday to Friday from September to June and shift to daytime hours during July and August.
