Job summary

Autism Services is seeking an Addictions Counsellor to provide confidential counselling, assessments, case management, crisis intervention, education, prevention programming, and referral services for community members experiencing substance use and co‑occurring mental health concerns.

The successful candidate will collaborate with community partners, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, health professionals, treatment centers, and families to support individuals throughout their recovery journey.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented practice.
  • Strong understanding of: Intergeneration trauma, Residential school impacts, Grief and loss.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic record keeping.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy legislation.

Reporting to the Mental Health & Addictions Manager, the Addictions Counsellor provides confidential addictions counselling, assessments, case management, crisis intervention, education, prevention programming, and referral services for community members experiencing substance use and co‑occurring mental health concerns. The successful candidate will collaborate with community partners, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, health professionals, treatment centers, and families to support individuals throughout their recovery journey. This position embraces a harm reduction philosophy while supporting individuals seeking recovery when appropriate.
