The Actuarial Benefits Analyst will support group benefits consulting, including the design and financial management of benefit plans for medium and large clients and prospects. This role involves performing actuarial valuations, accounting disclosures for post-retirement and post-employment benefits, reserve calculations, simulation modeling, flex plan pricing, and other actuarial and analytical projects.
The Actuarial Benefits Analyst will work closely with internal consulting teams, collaborate with vendors, support client deliverables, and ensure that quality standards are met throughout all actuarial processes.
The Actuarial Benefits Analyst Will
- Contribute to the design and management of group medical, dental, life, disability, and special risk benefits for clients.
- Prepare actuarial valuations of post-retirement and post-employment benefits plans in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Conduct claims analysis and trend forecasting to support client renewals and pricing recommendations.
- Perform annual renewal analysis, negotiate with carriers, and prepare client reports and presentations.
- Conduct experience reporting, budget projections, and financial performance reviews of benefit plans.
- Review financial statements for accuracy and compliance with underwriting agreements.
- Manage marketing efforts, including preparing and submitting specifications, analyzing and comparing costs, making recommendations, and preparing marketing reports.
- Gather data and determine the cost impact of plan design changes.
- Monitor carrier and provider service standards to ensure quality.
- Support the consulting team by preparing client presentation materials and meeting documents.
- Stay informed about industry trends by participating in conferences and seminars.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, and other internal teams.
- Collaborate with consultants to deliver client presentations and strategic insights.
- Conduct plan design benchmarking studies to assess market competitiveness.
- Review benefits documentation (contracts, booklets, collective agreements, amendments) for accuracy.
- Prepare and review master applications and sales documentation, ensuring all implementation steps are completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor implementation process to ensure deadlines met, questions answered, all forms completed in order to meet effective date.
- Prepare detailed plan design documents using excel template and update when required.
- Investigate and assist with resolving ad hoc claims and coverage issues for clients.

To be successful as an Actuarial Benefits Analyst with People Corporation, you will need:
- University degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manipulate large datasets.
- Excellent organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Works well independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Actively pursuing Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) exams.
All-star Candidates Will Have
- Knowledge of actuarial valuation software (e.g., ProVal) is an asset.
- Prior experience in group benefits or actuarial consulting is an asset.
