Job summary

Southbridge Care Homes is seeking an Activity Aide (Casual) in Oshawa, ON. You will plan, implement and evaluate activity programs for residents, transport them to activities, and monitor their well‑being during sessions.

Candidates should have a recreation/therapeutic studies background or be enrolled in a related program, plus strong written, verbal and documentation skills. This role requires an on‑site presence and a casual schedule with day and evening shifts.

• Post‑secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or related field.
• Enrolled in such a program with expected completion within 3 years.
• Demonstrated written, verbal, and documentation skills.

Job Overview

Location: Thortonview, Oshawa, ON.

Hourly Wage: Starting at $23.98.

Position: Activity Aide (Casual).

Schedule: Day and evening shifts (8:30 am‑4:30 pm and 12:30 pm‑8:30 pm).

Reports to: Programs Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Set up and clean activity area as necessary and transport residents to and from programs.
• Monitor the behaviour and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Post‑secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or another related field from a community college or university; or enrolled in such a program with expected completion within 3 years.
• Demonstrated written, verbal, and documentation skills.
• Knowledge and experience in one‑on‑one or group program planning, implementation, and evaluation for residents with and without cognitive impairments.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to plan, implement and evaluate new resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
• Knowledge or experience working with the geriatric population, especially those with cognitive impairments.

Additional Requirements

• A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
• Required tuberculin skin test (TST) status: negative 2‑step TST if no recent TST or >12 months; negative 1‑step TST if TST less than 12 months ago.
