Job summary

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or related field or enrolled in same; must complete within 3 years of hire.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication, plus documentation skills.
• Experience in one-on-one/group program planning and evaluation for well and cognitively impaired residents.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate activation programs for individuals and groups as assigned by the supervisor.
• Set up activity areas, transport residents to programs and monitor during activities.
• Maintain records of programs and resident participation per policy and communicate changes to staff.
• Collaborate with other departments to meet resident needs.

Status: Part Time Vacancy (8:00am-4:00pm & 12:00pm-8:00pm)

Reports to: Programs Manager

The Activity Aide plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents. On the daily basis the Activity Aide will have the opportunity to bring joy and fun to our residents; by assisting with the facilitation of different activities, you will have a hand at brightening someone’s day!

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation program based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Set up and clean activity area as necessary and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behaviour and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university or enrolled in same required. If enrolled, must complete program within 3 years of hire date.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
• Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to plan, implement, evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
• Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairments.

Additional Requirements include

• A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
• TB screening documentation as required under the Southbridge Care Homes' Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Policy
