Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking an Activation Aide for a part-time role at Weston Terrace Community in Toronto. You will plan and run engaging recreation programs that support residents’ well-being.

Reporting to the Director of Resident Programs, you will build meaningful relationships with residents and families, helping create a vibrant, inclusive home where every day matters.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in recreation/leisure fields or related discipline.
• Experience working with seniors and understanding motivation concepts is preferred.
• Knowledge of leisure principles and activity programming.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada required and ability to obtain checks.
• Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check as required by province.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement engaging recreation programs tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
• Foster relationships with residents and families to promote happiness and belonging.
• Record program details and resident participation; provide updates to leadership.
• Lead activities and events to encourage social interaction and well-being.
• Assist new residents in orienting to the recreation program.

Reporting to an Director of Resident Programs, the Activation Aide is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Join the Long Term Care team as a Recreation Aide and become an integral part of a dynamic environment focused on enhancing the lives of residents. In this role, you'll cultivate a profound connection with residents, gaining insight into their unique experiences. By fostering relationships with residents and their families, you'll provide diverse support options and engaging program selections to promote their overall health and happiness. Your individual contributions, alongside collaborative teamwork, will play a pivotal role in nurturing a home culture centered on empowering residents to live life to the fullest each day.

How You’ll Succeed:

• Contribute to the development and refinement of programs and initiatives
• Prepare the daily activities providing physical, cognitive and emotional enjoyment
• Support in assessing residents' interests, needs, and progress.
• Maintain accurate records of programs and resident involvement in accordance with departmental guidelines. Provide regular updates on resident participation and feedback to the Team Leader
• Foster social interaction among residents by leading designated activities or special events.
• Assist new residents in getting acquainted with the facility and its recreation program, facilitating introductions to other residents, and encouraging conversation and social engagement among them

Who you are:

• A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an indigenous Institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology, another degree granting Institution or equivalent work experience working with seniors
• Experience in working with seniors including an understanding of motivation concepts with seniors.
• Understanding of leisure principles.
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province
