Job summary

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking a Junior Engineer, Quality Control to lead quality data initiatives, metrics and improvement programs across AOPS and ship repair. The role supports data analytics, root cause analysis and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement across sites.

The successful candidate will coordinate with the Team Leader Quality Engineering and production teams, interpret drawings and specifications, and help implement robust Inspection and Test Plans while maintaining

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent, professional engineer designation (P. Eng.) or ability to obtain.
  • 2-5 years of experience in ship building, manufacturing, construction or relevant complex industrial environment with focus on QA/QC.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding methodologies/process and experience in a shipbuilding environment.
  • Experience as a Quality engineer or SME over one or more business systems.
  • Ability to coach and direct technical and non-technical improvement projects using structured methodology.
  • Analytical problem solving on complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate metrics; utilize automation for recurring metrics; ensure quality and timeliness within budgeted parameters; support scheduling for AOPS QCTC and ship repair during heavy inspection schedule.
  • Communicate with Team Leader Quality Engineering, production managers/supervisors to maintain smooth workflow and high productivity for AOPS and ship repair.
  • Foster an environment focused on process improvement; support documenting processes for AOPS and ship repair.
  • Support the Inspection and Test Plan; read/interpret production drawings and specifications to identify quality requirements for inspections.
  • Provide quality data to support business goals; run weekly/monthly meetings with Production stakeholders for AOPS and ship repair.
  • Support cross-functional improvement projects with problem solving, lessons learned, root-cause analysis, and stakeholder management.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Junior Engineer, Quality Control will be the main contact for ship repair quality data, metrics, and improvement initiatives. They will also support AOPS, and RCD. They will also be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of reoccurring executive metrics for all sites, performing data analytics, data analysis, root cause, and lessons learned.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate metrics. Utilizing automation for reoccurring metrics. Set expectations and accountability for completion Ensure quality and timeliness of work is completed within budgeted parameters Supporting scheduling for AOPS QCTC and ship repair during heavy inspection schedule.
  • Communicate with Team Leader Quality Engineering, production mangers / supervisors to help achieve and maintain smooth workflow and a high degree of productivity for AOPS and ship repair.
  • Foster an environment that is focused on process improvement initiatives internally and external departments for AOPS and ship repair. Support Processes and Procedures documenting how to stabilize and control processes for AOPS and ship repair.
  • Support the Inspection and Test Plan. Read and interpret production drawings and specifications - to identify quality requirements to inspections.
  • Work with Production staff to provide quality data in support of business goals. Running weekly and monthly reoccurring meetings with Production stakeholders for AOPS and ship repair.
  • Support team members through complex cross-functional improvement, standardization, and/or mitigation plans and projects, including creative technical problem solving and effective stakeholder management, Conducting root cause analysis, Implementing lessons learned from Production and customer feedback.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent, professional engineer designation (P. Eng.) or ability to obtain.
  • Training and experience in lean/six sigma or other improvement methodologies, i.e. lean, green, or black belt or equivalent, or interest and ability to obtain.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding methodologies/process and experience in a shipbuilding environment.
  • Demonstrated experience (2-5 years) in ship building, manufacturing, construction or relevant complex industrial environment with a focus on quality assurance and quality control.
  • Experience as a Quality engineer or subject matter expert over one or more business systems.
  • Ability to coach and direct technical and non-technical improvement projects using structured methodology.
  • Analytical problem solving on complex issues.
  • Confidently make, and advise on, risk-based technical decisions.
  • Verbal and written communication of complex issues to internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Confidently engage, execute and advise in cross-functional problem solving.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Coach and mentor internal and cross-functional stakeholders.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
