GENERAL SUMMARY

The Accounting Technician is vital to maintaining the organization's financial health and integrity. This role encompasses various accounting tasks, including managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling daily deposits, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards. Additional responsibilities include budget preparation, financial analysis, and audit support. This position fosters a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and accountability within the finance department, supporting the organization's strategic objectives.

REQUIREMENTS
General
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Capability to work under pressure in stressful situations and manage priorities effectively.
  • Strong listening, understanding, and clarification skills when interacting with colleagues or customers.
  • Knowledge of auditing techniques to identify areas of weakness
  • Familiarity with hotel and company standards.
  • Knowledge of SAGE, MS Excel, and accounting software
  • Experience in the hotel industry is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Tasks and Functions
  • Record and reconcile daily deposits, including credit cards
  • Ensure daily income is reviewed and corrected on a daily basis
  • Monitor purchase orders, process and enter invoices accurately, prepare payments, and ensure smooth day-to-day financial operations.
  • Review and follow up with department heads on accounting issues
  • Participate in all the executive committee and department head meetings.
  • Coordinate and control all night audit processes.
  • Follow-up on incidents involving guests with potential financial implications.
  • Assist the General Manager with special projects.
Monthly Responsibilities
  • Maintain the complete accounting cycle in a centralized environment
  • Verify adjustments and promotional/meal accounts
  • Perform routine follow-ups with suppliers, department heads and the regional office
  • Ensure monthly inventory counts are completed in a timely manner and costs meet budget benchmarks
Other Tasks
  • Verify paid-outs and adjustments made by the front desk staff.
  • Assist with payroll. Ensure hours recorded for management and non-management are correct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager and/or Regional Controller.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the hospitality industry or in an accounting position.
  • OR
  • A degree from an accredited university or college in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field; and 3 years of experience in hotel finance, accounting, or a related industry.
Preferred
  • Financial experience in limited or full-service properties with major hotel brands (Marriott/Hilton/Accor/IHG/Hyatt)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility to workhours required to complete the job.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English and French
  • Knowledge of FOSSE, MICROS, Employer D, Adaco, and Microsoft Office Suite (an asset)
