Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and technical operations: manage a team of maintenance technicians for buildings, equipment, facilities and common areas.

Director of Technical Services

RIMAP Hospitality Services is an innovative Montreal-based hospitality management company founded in 2007. RIMAP quickly established itself as one of the largest hotel operators in Montreal and currently manages several internationally recognized hotel properties under the Marriott, Hilton, and IHG brands. The organization is also continuing its expansion in the downtown Ottawa market.

Reporting to the General Manager or General Management, the Director of Technical Services is responsible for the maintenance of the buildings, grounds, equipment, and physical facilities. You will ensure compliance with safety, security, quality, and asset-protection standards while overseeing budgets, capital projects, preventive maintenance programs, and energy-conservation initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will be responsible for the overall management of the Technical Services Department. Your main responsibilities will include:

Oversee maintenance and technical operations:

  • Manage a team of maintenance technicians responsible for the upkeep of buildings, equipment, facilities, and common areas;

  • Plan and review workloads to assign the appropriate resources to repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities;

  • Provide technical support to maintenance technicians and management;

  • Ensure that the required equipment, materials, and supplies are available to support timely and effective interventions;

  • Ensure that the property is maintained in accordance with the organization’s standards and the applicable brand standards;

  • Know and apply the organization’s standards, policies, and procedures.

Manage and develop the team:

  • Assign tasks and monitor the team’s performance;

  • Participate in employee performance evaluations;

  • Identify training and development needs;

  • Coach and train a complete team of technical maintenance technicians;

  • Foster a positive work environment focused on collaboration, communication, and team cohesion;

  • Build constructive working relationships with employees, colleagues, tenants, and guests.

Ensure preventive maintenance and facility performance:

  • Plan, implement, and oversee preventive maintenance programs for equipment and guest rooms or units;

  • Monitor compliance with budgets and timelines;

  • Participate in the planning and monitoring of capital projects;

  • Contribute to energy-conservation initiatives and cost-optimization efforts;

  • Develop and implement strategies that meet or exceed the needs and expectations of guests, tenants, and employees.

Maintain a safe environment:

  • Ensure the safety and security of the building, guests, tenants, and employees;

  • Immediately report any situation that may pose a health or safety risk;

  • Take the necessary corrective measures when a hazard is identified;

  • Monitor hazardous or unusual situations and respond appropriately;

  • Oversee building inspections and emergency evacuation drills;

  • Act as an active member of the Health and Safety Committee.

Participate in hotel operations:

  • Attend daily operational meetings;

  • Plan and lead departmental meetings;

  • Participate in the Manager on Duty (MOD) program;

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the smooth operation of the property;

  • Perform any other related duties required for the effective operation of the department.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • A high school diploma or post-secondary education, combined with at least five years of experience in technical maintenance or a related field;

  • Or a recognized college or university degree in building and construction, engineering, mechanics, or a related discipline, combined with at least four years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or an equivalent field;

  • Technical training in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC/HVAC-R), electrical systems, or plumbing;

  • Excellent written and spoken French and English;

  • Experience managing, supervising, and developing a technical team;

  • Positive leadership skills that encourage collaboration and employee engagement;

  • The ability to work under pressure and manage situations requiring a strong sense of urgency;

  • Excellent communication and listening skills;

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines;

  • The ability to assess different options and make quick, thoughtful decisions;

  • The ability to identify and prevent problems and implement effective solutions;

  • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills;

  • The ability to analyze complex information from various sources;

  • An understanding of basic financial information and budget management;

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant computer tools;

  • Knowledge of computer systems and their management;

  • The ability to occasionally lift 50 to 70 pounds and frequently transport, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds;

  • Experience with hotel pre-openings or openings is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS
