Job summary

Town of Milton is seeking an experienced accounting leader to supervise staff and oversee core accounting functions including A/R, A/P, inventory and capital assets. You will ensure accuracy of financial records, support year-end processes, and liaise with the Town’s auditor.

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting & Payroll, you will drive month-end close, implement PSAB updates, and contribute to the FIR and annual financial statements.

Qualifications

• Post secondary degree in Business, Finance and/or Accounting.
• Five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
• One (1) year of supervisory experience.
• Professional accounting designation (CPA).
• Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards.
• Understanding of FIR and annual Financial Statements requirements.
• Experience in cost accounting and strong financial accounting skills.
• Proficient in Windows and Excel; strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, inventory, and assets.
• Review and approve accounting transactions (invoices, billings, journal entries).
• Approve outgoing funds: cheques, EFTs, wires, bank drafts.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close and financial reporting.
• Prepare audit working papers per PSAB standards.
• Coordinate with external auditors and respond to inquiries.
• Prepare annual Library charity return and related filings.
