Job summary

The Town of Milton is seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee the accounting function, including AP/AR, inventory, and capital assets, ensuring accurate financial reporting for year-end statements. You will lead a team, coordinate with auditors, and uphold PSAB standards.

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting & Payroll, you will drive month-end routines, provide financial analysis, and support regulatory filings while maintaining strong internal controls and fostering continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in business, finance or accounting.
• CPA designation required or active pursuing with experience.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of PSAB standards and public sector reporting.
• FIR and annual Financial Statements familiarity.
• Cost accounting and strong analytical skills required.
• Proficiency in Windows and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations.
• Manage month-end and year-end close activities.
• Coordinate audit requests with external auditors.
• Prepare FIR and financial statement packages.
• Directs inventory and tangible capital assets accounting.
• Ensure tax compliance, including HST processing.
• Provide financial analysis and staff supervision.
