  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian accounting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems and accounting software.
  • Knowledge of payroll, GST/HST, and regulatory compliance.

Job description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role manages month-end and year-end processes, supervises accounting staff, maintains internal controls, supports budgeting and forecasting activities, and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The Accounting Manager works closely with the Controller and operational managers to support informed business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and working papers.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports.
  • Investigate and explain variances from budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and general accounting functions.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies.
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with cash management activities.
  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Assign responsibilities, establish priorities, and monitor workload distribution.
  • Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
Budgeting & Financial Analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Develop key performance metrics and reporting dashboards.
  • Support profitability and cost control initiatives.
Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Ensure compliance with ASPE, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate year-end audits and respond to auditor requests.
  • Review GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory filings.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
Process Improvement
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support ERP and accounting system enhancements.
  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
  • Participate in special projects and business initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience
  • 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.
  • Manufacturing or distribution experience considered an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian accounting principles.
