Responsibilities

Niitsitapi Employment Centre (Lethbridge Location) - BTEST

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Accounting Clerk provides day-to-day accounting duties along with administrative support to the Niitsitapi Employment Centre. This position assists with accounts payable and receivable functions such as financial data entry, account reconciliations, invoices and payments, financial records, program expenditure tracking, and financial reporting. The Accounting Clerk will work with management and finance staff to ensure that financial transactions are accurate, timely, and handled in accordance with organizational structure policies and procedures.

AREA OF SUPERVISION:
  • Reports to the Manager, Finance/Accounting staff, as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures Manual.
ACCOUNTING & FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION
  • Process accounts payable invoices, payments, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with accounts receivable, including recording payments and maintaining accurate records.
  • Enter and maintain financial information in accounting and organizational systems.
  • Assist with bank and account reconciliations.
  • Review invoices, receipts, expense claims, and other financial documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Follow up on outstanding accounts and documentation when necessary.
FINANCIAL RECORDS & REPORTING
  • Prepare and maintain financial records, spreadsheets, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting and year-end preparation.
  • Assist with tracking program expenditures and ensuring expenses are allocated to the appropriate program or account.
  • Assist with preparation of financial information for funding and program reporting.
  • Assist with payroll-related administration as required.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
  • Provide general accounting and administrative support to the organization.
  • Assist with financial and administrative tasks related to program delivery and organizational operations.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
CONFIDENTIALITY & PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, client, and organizational information.
  • Follow organizational policies, procedures, and financial controls.
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Strong knowledge of basic accounting and bookkeeping practices.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, invoicing, and financial record keeping.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain accurate financial records and support documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
  • Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Experience using accounting software is an asset.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization, employment services environment, non-profit organization, or government-funded program is an asset.
Qualifications
NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have a Business Administration Diploma with a major in accounting with 3 years related work experience.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable mode of transportation
  • Must provide an updated Criminal Record Check
