Job summary

Garland Commercial Ranges is seeking an Accounting Assistant III on a temporary role in Mississauga, Ontario, with potential to transition to full-time. The position reports to the Manager, Accountant III and is 100% in-office; strong accounting knowledge and related education are preferred.

Under broad supervision, you will perform moderately complex tasks, manage AP processes, prepare detailed statements, support audits, and help maintain supplier records.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance is an asset.
• Previous Accounts Payable or accounting experience.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Excel; AE/accounting systems is an asset.

Garland Commercial Ranges is looking for an Accounting Assistant III on a temporary role, with the potential to become full-time, permanent!

Under broad supervision, the Accounting Assistant III provides accounting clerical support in functional areas of the Finance department. This individual performs moderately complex to complex accounting activities such as maintenance and auditing of the general ledger, preparation of detailed accounting statements and financial reports. May direct less experienced staff regarding basic duties and tasks.

Reporting to the Mgr., Accountant III, this position is 100% based in-office at our Mississauga, Ontario facility.

Major Accountability:

• Process payments and taxes
• Generate AP reports and other AP outputs (i.e. invoice hold / past due list)
• Respond to AP inquiries
• Retain records
• Receive invoices and track / match purchase orders and receipts
• Escalate business issues to Senior Analysts and Managers
• Understand the AP function, key policies, and standard operating procedures
• Receive, review, and process supplier invoices accurately and within established deadlines.
• Match invoices to Purchase Orders (POs) and Goods Receipts (GRs) and resolve discrepancies.
• Verify invoice coding, approvals, quantities, pricing, and applicable taxes.
• Process supplier payments and payment runs after obtaining required approvals.
• Respond to and resolve supplier and internal AP inquiries.
• Investigate invoice discrepancies, payment issues, duplicate invoices, and outstanding balances.
• Assist with new supplier setup and maintain accurate supplier records.
• Review and reconcile supplier statements and AP accounts.
• Prepare AP reports, including aging, past-due, outstanding invoice, and payment reports.
• Work on AP-to-GL reconciliations
• Perform month-end and year-end AP activities, including reviewing outstanding invoices, accruals, and open items.
• Maintain accurate AP records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies.
• Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
• Follow AP policies, procedures, internal controls, and standard operating procedures
• Identify process improvements and assist with system testing, projects, and process changes.
• Provide backup support to other Finance team members as required.

Qualifications

Specialized Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance is an asset.
• Previous Accounts Payable or accounting experience
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Excel; experience with AE/accounting systems is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and accounting procedures.

Education and Experience

• College/University degree, 5 years of experience in a similar role is considered

Working Conditions

• Heavy computer use.
• Normal office environment; must be able to sit for long periods
