Job summary

Staples Canada is seeking a financial professional to support month-end close activities in a hybrid Richmond Hill role. You will perform analyses, prepare journal entries, and generate reports to ensure accurate period closes.

You will reconcile accounts, provide in-depth commentary on financials, deliver ad-hoc analyses, and collaborate with the finance team to improve controls. The role involves partnering with auditors and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent in accounting, business, finance or a related field.
• Professional accounting designation (Canadian CPA is an asset) or working towards a designation.
• Knowledge of financial reporting and financial systems; Oracle is an asset.
• Strong/advanced Excel skills and 1+ years of finance experience.
• Hybrid role with 4 days onsite in Richmond Hill, subject to the hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Perform month end closing activities such as analyses, journal entries and generation of reports.
• Prepare account reconciliations and resolve issues and unreconciled differences.
• Provide meaningful analysis, in-depth review and commentary on financials and comparisons to prior periods.
• Provide supplementary and ad-hoc reporting / analysis as required.
• Keep team appraised of unexpected or uncontrollable circumstances that may impact reporting timelines.
• Identify and execute process improvements for existing month end activities and reconciliations.
• Partner with various individuals within finance to improve controls and efficiency.
• Support and liaise with the external auditors in their execution of the audits.
• Evaluate the existing month-end, quarter-end and year-end processes and propose improvements.
