Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a Senior Accountant for a private equity client in the Greater Toronto Area. The role features a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office, 2 days from home) and a strong focus on accurate financial reporting across multiple entities.

The candidate will manage GL maintenance, tax compliance, and coordination with tax advisors, while supporting fund management activities and investment-related tasks. Ontario residency and eligibility to work in Canada are required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee timely and accurate reporting for all entities.
• Prepare legal entity financial statements and notes for annual tax returns.
• Maintain GL and chart of accounts; ensure accurate processing of all financial transactions.
• Assist with income tax, withholding tax, and HST compliance; coordinate with tax advisors.
• Support Fund Managers with cash reconciliations, capital calls, and distributions; review fund inputs quarterly.
• Collaborate with Fund Team and external advisors on investments, memos, and tax implications.
• Respond to Fund-level investor queries including audit confirmations.
• Develop policies, controls, and processes for financial transactions and reporting.
• Perform other duties including treasury management and tax projects.

About the Opportunity

• Overall responsibility for timely and accurate reporting of all entities referred to above.
• More specifically, the role will be responsible for preparing all legal entity financial statements (including notes to financial statements) for the purpose of preparing the annual tax return.
• Ensure the proper maintenance of all general ledgers and the chart of accounts and the timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions.
• Income Tax, Withholding Tax, and HST Compliance
  • Work with Senior Manager, Tax to plan, organize and prepare all of the “tax kits” that are provided to our tax advisors.
  • Review of all draft and final returns prepared by our tax advisors.
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Tax to make all required income tax installments.
  • Prepare supporting working papers for annual HST filings and prepare all relevant withholding tax calculations and required remittances.
• Provide support to Fund Managers, including cash reconciliations for incoming capital calls, preparing all outgoing wires for capital distributions, and confirming relevant fund financial statement inputs on a quarterly basis.
• Collaborate with Fund Team and external advisors on planned new investments and realization transactions, including providing input into structuring memos, reviewing legal documents, tax implications, and other matters.
• Complete responses to Fund level investor queries, including audit confirmations and other ad hoc requests.

  • Assist with the development of policies, practices, and controls for the processing of all financial transactions and reporting.

  • The Senior Accountant will perform other duties as required, including cash and treasury management, various tax and other projects.

Salary Range

$90,000 - $100,000 / year
