Job summary

Doane Grant Thornton LLP is seeking an Accountant, Privately Held Business Group, to handle client engagements and day-to-day accounting for privately held clients across Canada. The role requires 1–5 years of accounting experience, with proficiency in bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation, and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

Qualifications

• Accounting certificate, diploma or equivalent practical experience.
• 1–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice.
• Experience with Sage and QBO is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Articulate, inspiring and versatile communicator, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute client engagements in accordance with firm standards.
• Bookkeeping preparation and posting of client transactions.
• Planning and execution of compilation engagements, including preparation of financial statements.
• Preparing adjusting journal entries and working paper files.
• Reconciling bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Preparing and reconciling payroll records and related remittances.
• Preparing personal and corporate tax returns, trust returns and GST returns.
• Assisting a broad range of privately held business clients with day-to-day accounting queries.
• Completing additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as required.
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships through responsive and professional service.
