Job summary

Doane Grant Thornton in Duncan, BC, is seeking an Accountant for the Privately Held Business Group. You will provide client recommendations, plan engagements, and handle bookkeeping for diverse clients.

The role requires 1-3 years of accounting experience, an accounting certificate or CPA in progress, and strong communication. QuickBooks experience is an asset. The firm offers profit sharing, flex days, RRSP contributions, and remote work options.

Qualifications

• An accounting certificate, diploma or equivalent practical experience (we can also support those who are in the CPA program, or intend to in the future).
• 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice.
• Experience with QuickBooks is an asset.
• The ability to work independently and within a team.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Articulate, inspiring and versatile communicator, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Provide recommendations for our clients
• Plan and execute client engagements
• Bookkeeping preparation and posting of client transactions
• Planning and execution of notice to reader engagements, including preparation of financial statements
• Preparing adjusting journal entries
• Performing reconciliations of bank accounts, accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Performing reconciliations of payroll
• Preparing personal and corporate tax returns, partnership returns, trust returns and GST returns
• Assisting a broad range of privately held business clients with day to day accounting queries
• Completing additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as required
