We are seeking an Accountant to join our clients dynamic team. In this role, you'll be responsible for the full scope of financial management for their live events and venue portfolios. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of accounting principles and a passion for the entertainment industry.
Responsibilities
- Manage the complete accounting and reconciliation processes for all events produced or hosted through their Live and Venue divisions.
- Oversee and optimize the House Billing process, including preparing labor and cost estimates, managing house billing for events across venues, and supporting booking executives and operators.
- Track event costs and ensure accurate financial management throughout the event lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate settlement templates for show settlements and ensure timely communication with relevant business units.
- Review contracts and conduct settlements with promoters and artist representatives on event nights.
- Manage the month-end close process, prepare profit and loss (P&L) statements, and compile post-event estimates/adjustments.
- Record revenue, costs, and associated taxes related to Live and Events in the accounting system.
- Develop financial and operational expertise across their Venues, specifically related to labor and non-labor expenses, and provide guidance to operators.
- Record all relevant entries for event and concert settlements and book intercompany transactions.
- Manage Balance Sheet reconciliations for relevant legal entities and/or account GLs across Live, Events & Festivals, and Hospitality.
- Compute non-resident withholding tax remittances, generate slips (T4A-NR), and handle all related tax requirements across Canadian jurisdictions and internationally.
- Evaluate current accounting processes to identify areas for improvement and champion change.
- Provide primary analytical support for special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience, ideally within the live entertainment industry (concerts, family attractions, performing arts, and special events).
- Proficiency in Excel, strong attention to detail, and excellent time-management skills are essential.
- Proficient understanding of Sage Intacct or a similar cloud accounting system is an asset.
- Ability to work both independently to troubleshoot and problem-solve, a curious nature, and openness to embracing change and ambiguity.
- Natural ability to be a reliable team member, capable of effective collaboration, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, tailoring messages based on purpose, audience, and channel.
