Job summary

Vancouver School Board in Vancouver invites applications for an Alternate Format Production Technician - Technical & Resource Support C at the Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI).

You will scan materials, produce digital alternate formats, proofread texts, and help develop accessible webinars and 3D models, supporting PRCVI staff. 7-hour days, in-person at PRCVI office; salary $65,993.00 with extensive benefits and municipal pension.

Qualifications

• Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years post-secondary training in Media Production, Graphic Design, Programming or Information Studies and a minimum of four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience with digital accessible STEM content production in MathML and Python.
• Familiarity with digital accessibility and alternate format workflows (PDF, EPUB, e-Text).
• Proficiency with OCR software (ABBYY FineReader, OmniPage) and markup in Adobe and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to lift, carry and maneuver heavy materials (minimum 10 kg).

Responsibilities

• Scan hard copy materials and markup for digital alternate formats.
• Remediate digital files to create STEM-focused materials via ARC-BC.
• Proofread electronic texts across formats.
• Proofread and revise publishers’ files for alternate format production.
• Collaborate to develop and record accessible webinars and remote professional learning.
• Support production of 3D printed alternate format models.
• Provide technical and resources support to the PRCVI Division.
• Perform other work within the job band as assigned.
