About the Role:
Reporting to the Financial Manager, the Academic Financial A nalys t is responsible for supporting the Financial Manager with budget development, forecasting and analysis. The incumbent will handle reconciliation and maintenance of a consolidated report for faculty teaching load, account analysis and financial exp enditure approvals.
T he Academic Financial Analyst will:
Assist the Financial Manager in the coordination and preparation of a consolidated budget submission on behalf of the Faculty by working closely with units and creating supporting schedules;
Conduct variance analysis on actual-to-budget comparison, investigate significant variances, and provide value-added recommendations to improve performance;
Develop supporting schedules for projections (multi-year);
Reconcile Faculty Teaching Load to the Annual Workload plan, Academic timetable and the Chair’s tracking sheet ;
Maintain Faculty Teaching Load by periodically distributing to Chairs and Directors and obtain Decanal approval for workload changes;
Consult with the Financial Manager on outstanding recoveries for release time stipends and teaching overload contracts not created or deferred;
Review and approve Faculty financial transactions and request changes;
Prepare financial transactions;
Ensure all transactions are processed in accordance with policies and procedures established by the University and/or funding agency;
Support individuals with interpretation of policies and implementation of best practices, including questions related to appropriate financial dimensions for expenses;
Identify improvements leading to operational improvement and increased customer satisfaction;
Analyse Faculty operating projects, including internal research and event awards, start-up funds, and program accounts including additional course fees;
Initiate opening and closure of accounts;
Monitor new hire onboarding status; follow up on incomplete onboarding or unsigned contracts to prevent payment delays;
Review internal chargebacks to ensure accuracy and proper allocation ;
Support ad hoc projects as assigned by the Dean and/or Financial Manager.
Key S kills and Experience :
Undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field or discipline (i.e., Accounting, Finance, etc.), or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Financial planning, reporting, and analysis experience;
Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems and Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations;
Experience interpreting and communicating financial information and systems to a non-financial audience;
Detail orientated, analytical and excellent problem-solving skills;
High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
Strong ability to simplify, organize and communicate information in a clear and concise manner;
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with internal stakeholders; and
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, with extensive knowledge of Excel ;
Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships with various key stakeholders (Dean, Associate Deans, Faculty members, Administrators, etc.);
Ability to exercise independent judgement, utilizing policies and procedures to determine the best solution.
Preferred or Asset Skill s:
Experience with not-for-profit accounting standards;
Familiar with Brock’s internal policies and various collective agreements;
Related public sector financial experience;
Post secondary experience.
Salary and Total Rewards:
Job Grade J , Salary Scale ( $ 56,503-$91,627 );
Target Hiring Range: $ 56,503-$60,000
T his is a permanent position that includes :
