Job summary

Smithers Secondary School in the Bulkley Valley Education Connection is seeking a part-time temporary teacher for Grade 8-12 Humanities with online course delivery.

The successful candidate will use Moodle & Office 365, design online courses, develop personalized learning plans with parents, and support inclusive, student-centered learning. Attendance at staff meetings and collaboration with the school team are expected.

Qualifications

• University qualifications and successful teaching experience in secondary humanities.
• Experience delivering courses via Moodle and Office 365.
• Design, creation and delivery of Online Learning Courses.
• Ability to develop personalized learning plans with parents.
• Understanding of Distributed Learning Education and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Teach Grade 8-12 humanities and electives, including online courses.
• Deliver instruction using Moodle and Office 365 platforms.
• Develop and implement online courses and assessments.
• Collaborate with parents on personalized learning plans.
• Engage in school team meetings and supporting inclusion.

GRADE 8-12 HUMANITIES COURSES / ELECTIVES AND OTHER ONLINE COURSES AS REQUIRED*

EFFECTIVE: to January 31, 2027

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL

• Have University qualifications and successful teaching experience in teaching the above listed subject areas at a secondary level.
• Have experience in delivering courses through a course management system such as Moodle and Office 365
• Have experience and qualifications in the design, creation and delivery of Online Learning Courses
• Have experience in developing personalized learning plans with parents
• Have a strong understanding of the principles of Distributed Learning Education
• Have demonstrated success with students with behavioral and motivational challenges
• Have a commitment to the directions of the school as outlined in the School Growth Plan
• Embed the First Nations Principles of Learning in all subject areas
• Be committed to and practice the philosophy of inclusion
• Foster a student-centered environment in the classroom
• Have good interpersonal skills and a history of successful classroom management
• Have knowledge and commitment to using current assessment strategies, including formative assessment
• Be committed to consultation, parent conferences, and positive home/school/community liaison
• Be committed to working as a cooperative member of a school wide instructional team and attend meetings as required.

SALARY:

The starting annual salary for full-time teaching position ranges from $66,538 to $116,870, with placement on the range based on length of services and qualification in accordance with the collective agreement. Additionally, $3,500 annually as a Remote & Rural Allowance (Effective July 1, 2026) .
