Job summary

The Information Technology Assistant at McGill Library supports the re-launch of the 3D Printing Lab's mediated service model through Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. On-site role involves guiding users, processing print jobs, maintaining equipment, and recording usage data.

You will work with a small team under AMUSE guidelines, with a part-time schedule of up to 15 hours per week, starting September 7, 2026 and ending December 23, 2026, with potential extension.

Qualifications

  • Experience with 3D printers is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and assist users.
  • Fluency in English; French is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and customer service orientation.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies.

Job description

Hiring Unit: McGill Library (Schulich of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering) Hours of work: up to 15 hours per week Duration of contract: September 7, 2026 to December 23, 2026, with possibility of extension.

Position Summary

The Information Technology Assistant will work as part of a small team to re-launch and deliver the 3D Printing Lab’s mediated service model through Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. Primary duties will include:

  • orienting new users to the technology and service model
  • evaluating, scheduling, executing, and troubleshooting users’ print jobs
  • performing routine maintenance on equipment
  • maintaining documentation related to the equipment’s status and usage
  • recording usage data and user feedback

Technology in the space includes 3D printers and computers.

The Information Technology Assistant ensures appropriate guidelines are followed in relation to the use of equipment and space at the 3D Printing Lab. Work done on site.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
  • Responsible, adaptable, reliable and friendly.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communicator with proven ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
  • Willingness to learn and enthusiasm for emerging technologies.
Languages
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French is an asset.
Experience
  • Experience working with 3D printers is required.
  • Experience in a customer service role providing troubleshooting assistance preferred.
Skills
  • Although training is provided, the ability to operate and troubleshoot issues with the aforementioned equipment is highly preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills are a must.

Hourly Salary: (AMUSE A) $16.70
