Job summary

Britespan Building Systems Inc is seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead the safe, efficient operation of a manufacturing department at our Wingham facility. You will guide production employees, coordinate daily activities, and drive improvements in safety, quality, and productivity.

This hands-on leadership role requires building a high-performing team, meeting schedules, and maintaining strict safety standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles, raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of hand/power tools
  • Must possess a working knowledge of CWB welding standards & quality requirements
  • Postsecondary education in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Operations Management, or a related field – asset
  • Health & Safety training and/or certifications – asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and supervise production employees to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment that promotes teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate daily production priorities, job expectations, and operational updates to team members.

Hours: Monday – Thursday; 5pm – 3:30am (10 hour shifts)

Position Summary

This role provides day‑to‑day leadership to production employees in one of our manufacturing areas, including Steel, Fabric, or Distribution, ensuring production schedules are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, & operational excellence.

The Shift Supervisor is accountable for planning & coordinating daily activities, coaching & developing team members, monitoring performance, & driving continuous improvement initiatives. Working collaboratively with Management, Quality, Maintenance, Shipping, & other cross‑functional teams, this position ensures resources are effectively utilized to meet customer expectations & business objectives.

Education & Knowledge

  • Experience managing production schedules, labour resources & workflow to meet operational targets
  • Demonstrated experience leading & motivating teams while fostering a positive, accountable work environment
  • Experience investigating & resolving production, quality, & safety issues
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S, or similar operational excellence initiatives - preferred
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems & production reporting software – asset

  • Monitor workflow throughout the facility to ensure materials, equipment, & personnel are utilized efficiently
  • Coordinate with material handling & support teams to ensure workstations are supplied with materials & production is not interrupted
  • Identify production constraints & implement corrective actions to minimize downtime & improve throughput
  • Ensure standardized work procedures & manufacturing processes are consistently followed
  • Monitor production performance & implement actions to improve productivity, efficiency, & overall operational effectiveness
  • Adapt quickly to changing production priorities while maintaining operational performance & customer service levels
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote & maintain a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with all health & safety legislation, company policies, safe working practices, & the proper use of personal protective equipment
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, & safety observations
  • Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, & safety concerns, implementing corrective & preventive actions
  • Maintain a safe, clean, & organized work environment through employee education, accountability, & adherence to housekeeping standards
  • Ensure workstations, machinery, & common areas are maintained in an orderly condition that supports safe & efficient operations
Quality
  • Ensure products are manufactured, processed, or prepared in accordance with Britespan’s quality standards, customer specifications, & established procedures
  • Verify quality inspections are completed & respond promptly to quality concerns or non-conformances
  • Monitor production processes to ensure consistent quality & identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production Management & other teams to resolve product or process issues
Equipment & Resource Management
  • Ensure production equipment tools, & workstations are maintained in safe working condition and available when required
  • Coordinate maintenance requests & support preventative maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime
  • Monitor inventory, materials, consumables, & production supplies to support uninterrupted operations
  • Ensure efficient material flow throughout the manufacturing facility
  • Lead & support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiative to enhance safety, quality, productivity, & cost performance
  • Encourage employee involvement in identifying opportunities to eliminate waste, improve processes, & increase operational efficiency
  • Support the implementation of new equipment, technologies, & process improvements
Communication & Administration
  • Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to coordinate daily operations
  • Attend and actively participate in production meetings, shift handovers, & operational planning sessions
