Job summary

Nova Scotia Community College is seeking a Campus Library Technician (60%) at the Ivany Campus in Dartmouth, NS. The role supports the Library and Learning Commons with onsite and online services, helping students and staff access resources and manage materials.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Library and Information Technology required.
  • Minimum one year full-time equivalent library experience; academic library experience is an asset.
  • Experience serving diverse user groups.
  • Experience with academic integrity, citation and referencing.
  • Experience with library applications, discovery services (Alma/Primo VE), databases and LibApps.
  • Strong computer literacy including Office 365 and Learning Management Systems (Brightspace). Pressbooks is an asset.
  • Comfortable in a digital environment and willing to learn new technologies.
  • Copyright and open educational resources (OER) experience is an asset.
  • Experience with assistive technology (AFTs, text-to-speech, accessibility features).

Responsibilities

  • Promote and support all Libraries and Learning Commons services, programs and activities.
  • Provide on-site and online library support to students, faculty, staff and community, answering research questions and referrals.
  • Use shared Novanet systems (e.g., Alma) to process materials, loans, interlibrary loan, and reserves.
  • Support Accessible Format Texts (AFTs) by processing approved requests and supplying materials.
  • Provide technology support for Brightspace, Office 365, Pressbooks, and library printers/scanners.
  • Maintain circulation data and assist with new materials processing and deselection projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on college-wide and consortia initiatives; participate in committees.
  • Support campus events and orientations and convocation activities.

Salary range: $47,711.56 to $55,553.09 annually (salary will be pro-rated based on 60% position)

Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma in Library and Information Technology.

  • You have a minimum of one year (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a library environment. Academic library experience is considered an asset.

  • You have experience supporting and providing service to diverse user groups.

  • You have experience with academic integrity, citation and referencing.

  • You possess strong demonstrated experience with library applications, including library service platforms (Alma is an asset) and discovery services (Primo VE is an asset), specialized databases; internet resources and LibApps (e.g., LibGuides).

  • You have strong demonstrated computer literacy skills, including experience with Office 365 and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace). Pressbooks experience is considered an asset.

  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.

  • Copyright and open educational resources (OER) experience is considered an asset.

  • Experience with assistive technology e.g., alternate format texts (AFTs), text-to-speech software, accessibility features in desktop and web applications and equipment, is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

The Campus Library Technician reports on campus to the Manager of Student Supports and functionally to the Manager of Libraries & Learning Commons.

The Campus Library Technician supports the operation and success of the Library and Learning Commons by:

  • Actively promoting and supporting the delivery of all Libraries and Learning Commons services, programs, initiatives and activities.
  • Providing on-site and online library support to students, faculty, staff and community members by responding to various levels of research/reference questions. This includes helping users access and use library resources and making referrals to other relevant College supports.
  • Using shared Novanet systems (e.g. Alma) to complete fulfilment activities such as processing library materials and equipment for loan and providing interlibrary loan, document delivery and reserve services.
  • Supporting Accessible Format Texts (AFTs) by processing approved requests and supplying students with required materials.
  • Providing technology support for equipment and software such as Brightspace, Office 365, Pressbooks, and library printers/scanners.
  • Supporting collection maintenance by maintaining accurate circulation data, receiving and processing new materials, and assisting with deselection projects.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the Libraries and Learning Commons on college-wide and consortia initiatives. This includes participating in working groups, committees, and projects to advance library and learning commons services.
  • Supporting the success of campus events, activities and initiatives, such as orientations and convocation.
