NSCC's Pictou Campus in Stellarton, NS invites applications for the Operational Support, Facilities Support Assistant role (FS4). This full-time position supports the Department of Facilities and Engineering from Nov 23, 2026 to Mar 30, 2028, with a deadline of Oct 15, 2026.

The successful candidate will perform cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs, including painting, landscaping, and equipment operation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; willingness to attain a diploma or GED.
  • WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety training would be asset; First Aid/CPR and NS driver's licence are assets.
  • Minimum 1 year full-time experience as a cleaner, including waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers.
  • Custodial/maintenance experience in post-secondary or commercial setting is an asset.
  • Experience in trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) is an asset.
  • Experience with basic landscaping duties and equipment (ride-on mower, whipper snipper, lawn mower) is an asset.
  • Familiar with MS Office, e-mail and Megamation; comfortable with computer applications.
  • Experience delivering general, preventative, and scheduled maintenance duties.
  • Willing to wear PPE and complete respirator fit testing as required.
  • Ability to safely use ladders under 10 feet.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective maintenance and custodial service promoting care and preservation of campus facilities and a safe work environment.
  • Perform routine and special cleaning with emphasis on energy and sustainability.
  • Carry out routine painting duties and room rental setups.
  • Perform basic landscaping duties with ride-on mower, whipper snipper, or lawn mower.
  • Hours of work may vary; shift work and on-call duties as required.

Salary range: $41,702.30 to $43,315.12 annually
Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain a high school diploma or GED. Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset, as would Standard First Aid and CPR and possession of a valid NS driver's licence.
  • You have a minimum of one year's experience (full-time equivalent) as a cleaner (including the operation of waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers).
  • Custodial and/or maintenance experience in a post-secondary or commercial setting would be considered an asset.
  • Occupational experience that includes working in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with basic landscaping duties and the equipment to perform them, such as a ride on mower, whipper snipper, and lawn mowers would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail and Megamation.
  • You have demonstrated experience providing general, preventative, and scheduled maintenance duties.
  • Required to use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include completing respirator fit testing and wearing a respirator as required.
  • Ability to safely use ladders less than 10 feet in height, as required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective and timely maintenance and custodial service that promotes commitment to the care and preservation of Campus facilities, a safe work environment and effective risk management in order to create and maintain a welcoming environment reflecting standards of excellence in support of NSCC programs.
  • With an emphasis on energy and sustainability, perform a full range of routine and special cleaning duties associated with keeping the Campus in a safe and hygienic condition.
  • Perform routine painting duties and room rental setups.
  • You may also be required to perform basic landscaping duties with a ride on mower, whipper snipper, and/or lawn mower.
  • Hours of work may vary. Shift work and on-call duties as required.
