POSITION OVERVIEW:

Do you want to build and protect the infrastructure that keeps Maple Ridge moving from safe roads and reliable water systems to resilient drainage and well-planned development? Municipal infrastructure shapes everyday life. As an Engineering Technologist, you will turn plans into practical, lasting solutions, balancing technical detail, community needs, construction realities and sound stewardship of public funds.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys variety: preparing designs and budgets, reviewing development applications, coordinating capital projects, solving issues in the field and helping ensure municipal infrastructure is ready for today and tomorrow.

What You’ll Do:
  • Reporting to a supervisor, you will research, develop, schedule and administer municipal infrastructure programs, studies and capital projects. Your work will support the operation, maintenance, emergency repair, renewal and construction of:
  • Roads, sidewalks and street lighting
  • Water distribution systems
  • Storm and sanitary sewer systems
  • Drainage, erosion control and site-grading works
  • Mechanical and related municipal infrastructure systems
  • Prepare cost estimates, technical reports, recommendations, schedules and annual and long-range program budgets.
  • Prepare and review infrastructure designs, drawings, plans, specifications, tenders and Requests for Proposals.
  • Support consultant selection, administer contracts and monitor consultant work to confirm alignment with City requirements, project objectives and approved plans.
  • Review engineering submissions for subdivision, rezoning, development and building permit applications, including grading, servicing and infrastructure-impact considerations.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess construction progress, verify compliance, identify deficiencies and investigate concerns related to grading, drainage, soil stability and municipal engineering requirements.
  • Issue relevant permits and advance approved development applications for further processing.
  • Provide clear, practical technical guidance to internal departments, developers, property owners, consultants, contractors, utility companies and members of the public.
  • Maintain accurate project, inspection, development and enforcement records, reports, correspondence and statistics.
  • Analyze infrastructure capacity and servicing impacts and develop recommendations that support effective decision-making.
  • Contribute to updates to engineering policies, procedures, bylaws and servicing standards.
  • Provide technical support to departmental staff on software and computer applications, including minor troubleshooting and coordination with vendors on enhancements or issues.

You will help ensure that growth is well planned, construction is accountable and City infrastructure is built and maintained to strong technical and municipal standards. Your work will have a visible impact across the community from a development site under construction to the underground systems residents rely on every day.

Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the design, construction and installation of municipal utilities such as roads, water, stormwater and sanitary systems, including soil mechanics, stabilization and erosion control.

Sound knowledge of engineering practices and the interpretation of engineering plans, specifications, contract documents and related technical data.
