Job summary

Mount Carmel Clinic is seeking a Child Care Assistant (CCA) as part of the Early Learning & Parenting team in Winnipeg, MB. The CCA will deliver age-appropriate programming and support child development in alignment with planned activities, while maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.

Success requires knowledge of child care principles, current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR, and completion of the required 40-hour ECEC course.

Qualifications

• Child Care Assistant classification required by Manitoba Child Care Program.
• Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR certification.
• Completion of 40-hour introductory ECEC course.

Responsibilities

• Deliver child-specific, age-appropriate programming under ECLC principles.
• Implement plans and ensure safe, clean environment for learning.
• Observe and assess child development and adapt programming accordingly.
• Manage transitions and supervise activities to promote development.
• Identify and mitigate safety risks and handle behavioral issues per policy.

Position Summary

The Child Care Assistant (CCA), as part of a team of Early Childhood Educators and CCAs, delivers child-specific, age appropriate programming to all children in the program in accordance with child development principles. The CCA implement plans and provides programming designed to meet each child’s assessed needs in a manner that promotes positive social, physical, emotional and cognitive development. The CCA maintains a clean and safe environment that encourages healthy interaction and learning.

Qualifications

Education

• Child Care Assistant Classification from the Manitoba Child Care Program
• Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Completion of 40-hour “Introduction to Early Childhood Care and Education” – Red River College or online

• Demonstrated understanding of child care approaches and principles and ability to put that understanding into practice
• Supervise and engage children throughout the day, during transitions, individual and group activities and free and structured play, within program plans developed at Anne Ross Day Nursery
• Observe children in program activities and contribute of the process of assessment (individual children and groups) and design and delivery of programming that meets assessed needs
• Use a range of approaches, skills and techniques to optimize each child’s experience and opportunity to learn and develop
• Take active steps to identify and manage risks to ensure the safety of all children
• Manage behavioral issues in accordance with established policies and practices
