Job description

As a key member of the Insurance Special Project team, you will support the development and enhancement of IFRS 17 financial technical documentation and testing for insurance contract measurement accounting systems. Your focus will be on financial data, investments, data management, financial reporting, and implementing new financial technology tools. You will directly support process testing and control analysis across financial applications, identifying and driving solutions for improvements related to insurance contract measurement, investment, expense, financial, and data lake systems. Responsibilities include iteration functional testing, analytics, issue documentation, and supporting strategic financial objectives. You will also develop Python and related programming language solutions to support data engineering, analytics, and automation within the project team.

Job Description
What will you do
  1. Utilize Python and other programming languages to develop, run, and maintain key data technology tools supported by the project team.
  2. Assist with data sourcing from IT and cash flow mapping.
  3. Develop test cases with expected results for policy and non-policy cash flows, accounting events, and financial measurements.
  4. Create and maintain testing documentation for supported systems.
  5. Assess manual journal entries, define scope and requirements, and test and audit manual journal processing, comparing actual results with expected outcomes.
  6. Automate manual entries and processes.
  7. Support users in resolving production issues and applying bug fixes.
  8. Leverage technical knowledge of insurance accounting and systems to support the close process team in analyzing and defining requirements across actuarial, investments, accounting, IT, regulatory, and data needs.
  9. Support business financial analytics, testing, modeling, and other requirements related to planning, forecasting, and disclosures for global RBC insurance, including income statements, balance sheets, and financial metrics.

Must-have
  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian postsecondary institution with a focus on Business Math or Accounting.
  • Motivated self-starter capable of quickly learning new concepts.
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation skills.
  • Excellent financial modeling skills capable of managing and testing large data sets.
  • Outstanding technology skills.
  • Ability to clearly structure and write technical system, process, and methodology documents.
Nice-to-have
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python, with quick learning ability for new software.
  • Previous coop or work experience in the financial industry, ideally with insurance product knowledge (Life, Health, P&C, and Wealth) or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and/or actuarial standards of practice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to grasp technical details and identify macro-level issues.
Additional notes

Applicants must either be returning to school after the work term or require the full work term to graduate if not returning to school.
