Job summary

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is seeking a Part-Time Settlement & Family Services practitioner to deliver outcome-oriented settlement services for newcomers, including needs assessment, information and orientation, and employment-related supports.

You will conduct one-on-one consultations and workshops, liaising with government and community partners to connect clients with essential resources. Reports to the Senior Settlement Program Manager.

Program: Settlement & Family Services - ISIP

Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time (Less than 35 hours/week)

Number of Positions: 1

Compensation: $24.32 - $25.04 per hour

About the Position:

Deliver outcome-oriented settlement programtoeligibleclients. TheCommunity Integration Practitionerdeliverssettlement services for seniors, women,menand youth under the following components: a) Needs Assets Assessments and Referrals, b) Information and Orientation, c) Employment Related Services, d) Community Connections and e) Support Services.

Reports to: Senior Settlement Program Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs formal review of newcomer needs across a broad spectrum of settlement areas (e.g.language, employment, housing, community connections, etc.)
  • Develops Settlement Plans and follow-up support for newcomers based on identified needs with consideration of government, professional, business and community services available
  • Performs clients’ data entry
  • Refers or arranges clients to appropriate services as needed (e.g.crisis counselling)
  • Provides newcomers with client-centered settlement and integration information and orientation services about Canadaplusthe community they intend to settle
  • Deliversone-on-one consultations via various communication methods (e.g.in-person, email, online and by phone)
  • Provides information and orientation through workshops, group sessions and classes
  • Liaiseswith government, professionalgroups, businesses, schools and community services as necessary to ensureprovision of up-to-date,accurate and detailed information to newcomers and client settlement needs
  • Facilitates guided visits for newcomers to foster familiarizationwithexisting government and community resources
  • Plans and implements large and small events
  • Performs cultural interpretation between clients and service providers
  • Performs interpretation for workshop speakers where applicable
  • Translatesresources for newcomers
  • Plans,implementsandassistsinevents such as job fairs, community networking events and more.
  • Conductsoutreachto localcommunityorganizations (e.g.public libraries, community recreation and senior’scentres, government institutions, schools, food banks, cultural and faith-based institutions, and other local community and social networks)in ordertoconduct program promotion and recruit new clients
  • Provides settlement assistance and support to newcomers arriving in YVR
  • Attends program meetings on service delivery issues
  • Provides up-to-date information tothesupervisorwithin the service regionregardingchanges to community services, government departments and procedures
  • Works on improving program service outcomes and day-to-day servicesfornewcomers by participating in professional developmentprogramsas assigned
  • Documents clients’ needs, settlement plans, attendance records, and program outcomes to client database
  • Performs other related duties as assigned bysupervisor
Education, Training and Experience:
  • Bachelor’sDegreeinSocialorHumanSciences
  • Experience in working withnewcomers, refugees, temporary foreign workers, naturalizedcitizensand international students
  • Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant related services
  • Possession ofCertified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) Certificationis considered asan asset
  • Experiencein conducting workshops and events
  • Experiencein one-on-one settlement service delivery
  • Knowledge ofsettlement information and resources
  • Knowledgeof the local geographic area
Job Skill and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonaland intercultural communicationskills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Second language may be an asset whenrequiredto meet operational needs in serving communities with specific language requirements
  • Excellent technical skills in MS Office and web-based applications(e.g.MS Teams and Zoom)

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to excellence in service delivery
  • Excellent group facilitation skills
  • Ability to work with individuals and communities facing cultural adjustment challenges
