Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a Bachelor of Education degree
2. Must have or be eligible for BC Teacher Certification
3. Experience working with First Nations students
4. Good communication skills, self-motivated, compassionate, empathetic, and enthusiastic
5. Ability to manage challenging student behaviors

Knowledge and experience:

1. Primary Programs: Read Well, Saxon Math, Acadience Reading
2. Intermediate programs: Reading Mastery, Six Minute Solution, Jump Math/Math Focus, Corrective Reading, Third Quest
3. Effective classroom management skills
4. Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture
5. Effective planning strategies which include lesson plans, unit plans, and year plans
6. Comprehensive assessment strategies which accommodate First Nations learning styles
7. Willingness to integrate appropriate technologies in the classroom
8. Experience developing and implementing IEPs
9. Willingness to incorporate a variety of teaching methods to motivate and encourage students including the use of traditional knowledge in the outdoors and on the land
10. Willingness to participate in local community and cultural events
11. Experience using technology and web-based resources in instruction including Smartboards and iPads
12. Maintains effective and consistent communication with students and parents to discuss progress and goals
13. Ensure that students follow all COVID-19 guidelines such as handwashing, physical distancing, staying in cohorts, and mask wearing as required by current health and safety guidelines
14. Monitor virtual classrooms during distance/remote learning: student progress, student attendance, student mental health
